Year of the Squirrel

In the old shack, a lean-to, really
life was a new adventure

We raked the packed dirt floors
to clean up what the dog or squirrels didn’t eat
And ventured out on the darkest nights
to find the outhouse built of used doors
……………………………………………………..

Relatively quiet, except for
the singing pines

UNTIL

The day Mom told the
watching-patiently-with-intense-desire dog
“Get him!”

And, thus began the frantic days
the Year of the Squirrel wars…
Pragmatic Man

Pragmatic Man

Black and White Thinker

This is a combo of two watercolors and a pen and ink drawing. The words became obvious as soon as the image neared completion. As usual, I have never really met this fellow, except that I discovered him through the tip of my pen.

Tossing Dreams

How far must I toss my dreams
to be clear of my fears
and my blocks and beliefs and things?
…………………………………………………………..

Into the Outfield, fallow and weedy?
Where sustenance and nurturing
are catch as catch can?
………………………………………………………..

Perhaps it’s best not to toss at all
instead, to plant gently in my heart?

There, fear’s vibration and
the waves of old beliefs
create a song…

It’s all just vibration, after all
it’s up to me to tune it
Hot Seat

Hot Seat

Sally Sits

Sally likes to sit in her favorite chair to think through any problems or even self doubts. She’s always relied on the comforting plaid to add a certain organization to her thoughts and contemplations.  She calls it her “Hot Seat of Noble Intelligence. “

Other times, she just sits there and vegetates at the end of a long day.

Contemplation

How may days spent in contemplation
with only the One foremost in the mind?
A few moments here, several there
perhaps a retreat of hours or days
now and again, at some point
Still, like the mustard seed faith
or the scientific magic of leverage
the power of a single moment
plugged into the silence
– the sacred silence in the Presence –
moves mountains of sludge
and self-willful thinking
into the light of Love
Cherry Spring

Cherry Spring

Cheery before Cherry

I got to go to an event in the bay area this last weekend with a group of friends. This tree was singing to me! Lovely, lovely, lovely!  I was reminded of this poem I posted on the Daily Napkin a couple years ago. As always, I revised it a bit to fit. The many layers of texture in this photo are subtle. I especially enjoy building up layers in a subtle way.

One of the side benefits of doing the image a day this year, is that I am creating a whole line of images for my Serenity Cards. I’ve been making them large enough and high enough resolution that they are appropriate for high quality printing.  It’s two ways to invest in myself – both my creative self and my business self.

Abundant Joy

Little chickadee
peckin’ at the ground

Here a seed, there a worm
food abounds

He sings for joy
for wherever he goes

All to meet
his needs are found

Green Luck

Sometimes I resist going with the crowd, and then it takes me three times as long to come around to it. Blessings are blessings and I always wish you many of them. Life is such a joy, that I wish the discovery of that realization to everyone. Working in shades of green was fun and kind of healing too.
