On the beach under the palm
cradled by the warm sand
We listened to constant washing
of the magnificent shore
————————————————————
On the beech under my palm
cuddled by the warm bark
Bug listened to constant washing
of the hose outside the palm
Vacations both,
a different experience…
Quivering leaves
hold still when I look
Cacophony of green
in patient waiting
for another breeze
So still,so quiet
midst the myriad sounds
Birds being birds
and squirrels playing tag
And people bustling
self-centeredly
With no time to notice
the beauty and calm
The peacock perched
on the porch rail
Every morning and evening
for days and days
Calling out in lonely voice
looking beautiful
next to the redwood deck
A vigil of sorts
a Spirit watch
Calling to my soul
Calling me back home
On the sun-bleached fencepost
near the gnarled knot
sat the resting red-tail hawk
in her favorite warming spot
Unnoticed by the passing cars
in her silent vigil there
her ruffled feathers beautiful
eyelids muffling her intense stare
——————————————
I salute the wild hawk
and all the flying beings!

A visitor in my garden
the lizard appeared on the wall
just sunning and all
and getting a drink near the hose
—————————————————–
Alligator lizards
tiptoe-ing through my consciousness
holding still for eternity
In each moment between
holding still in all brilliance
Thinking lizard thoughts
and warm…
