How would it be
to look like a cartoon animal?
The manatee may know
although I bet he
never thinks about it
Manatee is just happy
to swim around looking sappy
and living the simple life
Once a stick-bug
showed up on my screen door
It was startling to realize
this odd twig was alive
I felt fear
Yet, the stick-bug still greeted me
in his gentle stick-bug way
The Spirit in me
honors the Spirit in all living beings
Hawk ducked under
the low trees in the backyard
To do a little dance
and say hello
Ruffle the feathers, turn around
shake the tail, bow and dip
stare for a bit and turn again
Hawk says “hi’
then soars again
Baby squirrel
all sweet and soft looking
sat on his favorite branch
Washing face with
the backs of his paws
thoroughly involved in the task
Then, stillness overcame
his every fiber
Looking sideways at that big person
there in the kitchen window
In a flash, he was gone!
He was one hum-dinger
and so was his song
And the winged one flew by
silently in truth
knowing there was nothing wrong
“Keep the faith,” the birdie said
as ice fogged morning sprung to life
with every crisp footfall
And, he was aware, not afraid
in the quiet hours
of his early morning moment
