Charged by the people
that he meets and greets
He’s a cosmic cheerleader
an ear with a heart
A friend to the friendless
A light at the door
A young man with an old soul
Words of encouragement
a smile in the heart
with tender hearted caring
Embodying service
on the high watch
in success or defeat
Gratitude…
(In honor of our friend – Dean, at the co-op)
Sometimes, he has too much fun
Dancing and cracking up
Mugging it up for some non-existent camera
The joy bubbling through
in an almost frantic pace
On those high-stepping days
of Laurel and Hardy moves
and free-flowing morning scat
I appreciate his sense of humor
and the way he occupies
his body in the present moment
Where, oh where, were you tonight?
Why was I working all by myself?
I had to fix dinner and get to a meeting
I made a mess, dear, and phht I was gone…

Sometimes, when I get busy
It may seem that my consciousness
Does not include the home environment
Or surroundings or my close relationships
Yet, my heart is always filled
With loving appreciation and gratitude
for those closest to me
