Year one – Turtle

Year one – Turtle

First you have
an epiphany:
“Ah-ha,” said the turtle,
“If I keep putting
one foot in front of the other
I’ll get there eventually!”

Daily Napkin for Thursday, December 3, 2009

In the closeness of the fog
palpable silence enfolds
all the birds hidden and silent
clustered in some forgotten place
Sounds of the adventurous,
foolhardy or brave
muffled, enclosed
Yet, even here, in this greyness
my heart beats the gentle rhythm
love sings a happy ditty
joy dances with abandon
hope rises to the occasion

Quest

A long way up the mountain
as I journeyed
from my head to my heart
followed hawk
and dreamed my place…
There on the mountain
I met porcupine
and deferred to her welcome
in all innocence

Turtle Walk

Turtle Walk

Steadily, steadily
one step and then another
with turtle patience
and tortoise determination
Steadily, steadily
more aligned, more aware
Life, the curlicue decorations
while focused on the destination
steadily stepping through fog
and sleet, sunshine and dark
Spirit navigates through heart and minds eye

Birthday Song

Out of the eyes, tears sprang
as you sang from your heart
to mine — a Spirit song
I cry for happy
when joyous ache
overwhelms essence
when gentle words
in tenderness tread
upon heartstrings
as delicate as spiderwebs
