Like jewels on velvet
the stars sparkled
I asked, “Can’t you do something
a little more exciting?”
Then, the biggest, brightest
flared, jumped, circled it’s neighbor
and flew out of view
Quicker than a hummingbird
as if to say, “I’m outta’ here!”
I stood there
mouth agape at the audacity
Zebra world
all black and white
an attitude
a way of thinking
Zebra world
surrounded by brilliant green
on Earth of red and yellow
and blue above
butterflies bright
rich life available to all
There is a place for all
no matter how they think
As the crow flies
You’re very near
And as they congregate
so, too, our hearts reunite
They walk both worlds
with caws and cause
Spirit messengers
As does our love
‘tween head and heart
and back again
The longest journey
in a moment made
The peacock perched
on the porch rail
Every morning and evening
for days and days
Calling out in lonely voice
looking beautiful
next to the redwood deck
A vigil of sorts
a Spirit watch
Calling to my soul
Calling me back home
Bull doggin’ life
and chewing on the gristle
With a tenacity and focus
on ingesting every juicy bit
With the huff’n puffery
only the outward appearance
His heart beat strong
and kind…
