Seeking Faith

It didn’t take a whole lot of effort
or even a moderate amount of thinking
to get to the edge of the cliff
the jumping-off spot

Where you’d like as not stop
to relish the fat fear
while seeking faith
in all the nooks and crannies

Where the words
could not prop you up
trepidating, vacillating
imitating courage

Until you were ready to leap
and lean on your wings

Going for a Ride

I am perfectly willing to drive
down the midnight highway
at 65 mph
Under the limited view of headlights
that only shine 200 yards ahead
Why not live life
confidently like that?
Yes!

Let’s go for a ride!

In No-Moon’s Darkness

Moon had gone to bed

off to play in dreamland

on the other side

Stars were hiding-seek too well

as if they’d dropped from the sky

• • •

In darkness thick as rabbit fur

we traversed the wood

Listening to the breath of silent wind

feeling the way with bared feet

With eyes closed and hearts open

and the simple faith of trusting children

Until, at last, we arrived home

without a scratch or trepidation

Bottom Drops Out

When it feels as if, once again
the bottom has dropped out
And you’re hanging out
over the precipice
In faith, you will discover
you can lean back into Spirit
Wherein, all is safe
and loving…

Hairy Samurai

Kamikaze squirrel
little hairy samurai

Praying to his food
in reverence
as vehicles whizz by

Standing there on the pavement
at the edge of the freeway

Reminds me of the truth
that Spirit is everywhere
that it’s all sacred

…that foolish faith
makes for an intrepid warrior
