** Dedicated to Pete Seeger, Truth Warrior and Peace Seeker **
Ever and always the wise elder
the troubadour of peace
awoke freedom in our hearts
and brightness in our steps
Whirling in rhyme friendly
and weaving words of wisdom
he led multitudes
in a dance of dignity
Simple truth was his diet
Peace fell from his fingertips
and I know that he is flying now
elixir of courage upon his lips
Some hairy clown in a tutu
stopped by to console
the agitated hippo stuck in the mud
• • •
How can one describe that
without seeming absurd?
Certainly some of life’s observations
are best kept impressed on the brain only
paying silent homage
to the appearance of reason and sanity
• • •
My brain takes it in
and spurts it out at odd times
Aw, heck!
Life is just silly, sometimes!
And the rains came
when least expected
on the cusp of a slim chance
– or was it no chance?
Tiny wisps first appeared
on the coattails of a wish and a prayer
beefed up by stormy emotions
they clanged together
The banging ring of pot lids
grew and gathered
‘til hunkered all together
to rain their blessed moisture
and slake the garden’s thirst
Others may spot
a gleaming vein of your gold
long before you
Still…
It’s up to you
to work your own mine
• • •
Meanwhile, your spirit shines
when you least expect
Innocence peeking
from sparkling youthful eyes
No pedestals here
neither above nor below
before nor behind
Simply two unique individuals
side by side
No pedestals here
and no glass case, either
it’s all rather simple
You, me
discovering together
We…
Singing the glory
of all that life is
Dancing the body
in time to the heartbeat
All is part of infinite Grace
• • •
May your day be filled
with pleasant surprises
sprinkled with joyous encounters
and punctuated with sweet
moments of peace
